President Len opened our meeting with our Pledge, followed by our prayer and song.
Fines: Fitchburg Past President and former member of our club, Marcia Bellermann was happy to see us all and to be back at her “favorite restaurant”. Charlie B. was happy to see Marcia. Bill Walsh was happy Manny’s gone. Mal was happy he didn’t have to water. Ed T. was happy he had a great round of golf. Billy O. was also happy he didn’t have to water. Ed W. was happy he won golf tournament with Terry O. and happy to see Marcia. Seema was sad she will be forced to miss cookout at Len’s next week due to District meeting she must attend.
Announcements:

- Our next Board Meeting will now be 8/19.
- Rich D. announced that the Monty Tech Golf Tournament will be held on 9/26.
- Our Spaghetti Supper is planned for 9/24. It is being chaired by Gwen, Maria and Bill Walsh. Gwen advised that tickets have been ordered and will be $8 and $7 for kids. It is critical that members provide a basket. A sign up sheet was passed around. Proceeds will go to PALS and the Senior Center’s Emergency Heating Fund. Bill related that they are purchasing 100 gallon vouchers for use by those in need this winter. This is a great program for us to get behind!
- Maria pointed out that it is each member’s duty to provide a speaker on our assigned dates. If you don’t have one lined up 2 weeks ahead, please notify Maria.
- Seema relates that the Habitat House dedication has been changed to 9/10 at 5:30 at 62 Essex Street, FB. Please attend if you can. Mark, Seema and so many others of you did so much to make this wonderful project happen. Come and celebrate it!
- Seema is Chairperson for Public Relations for District. She would like to increase recognition for Interact/Rotaract through billboards etc. She would like a Chairperson for this.
- Aisha proposes getting Interact involved in co-chairing our spaghetti supper under our guidance as a means of getting them involved in project as they currently don’t have a project of their own.
- Bob C. sadly reported that Lisa Grant is currently under hospice care. I know Lisa will remain in all our thoughts and prayers.
- Bud Fortin related further sad news that former member, Walt Linder passed away. Walt owned Minuteman Press in Fitchburg for many years and was an active member of our club. He will be missed.
History of Rotary: Carol ran out of steps in the 4 way test and so provided some interesting fodder on Paul Harris and the start of Rotary tonight. Rotary’s founder grew up in a rural environment and dreamed of moving to the big city. He did so, becoming a lawyer in Chicago. He joined other business owners in his office building in meeting weekly. They rotated among each others offices for these meetings, hence, the name Rotary. They began talking about what they could do to help the community. Paul Harris noted that City Hall had no public restrooms. Their group included a plumber, a construction contractor, an engineer and lawyer, Paul Harris. They put all their professional skills together to get the job done and build a restroom. They paid the expenses out of their own pockets. They received great personal satisfaction from this project which they shared with others, who then wanted to join. That was the start of this amazing group we are all a part of.
